Foam Brewers - Burlington Waterfront
Join us for the opening of Ellen Spring’s latest collection of wool-based abstractions at Foam and Deep City on Friday, July 11 from 5–8pm.
This body of work explores the intersection of beauty, utility, and sustainability. Ellen Spring has long been drawn to wool for its versatility. It can be woven into a delicate scarf or felted into a waterproof yurt. It dyes beautifully, comes in an array of earthy hues straight from the sheep, and is washable, durable, renewable, and biodegradable.
In creating this collection, Ellen challenged herself to make pieces that are both functional and environmentally responsible. She used wool from her own well-cared-for sheep- Ezra, Mocha, Holly, Hazel, Ivy, and Felice, along with low-impact dyes and minimal water and electricity.
At the heart of these abstract works is a quiet reverence for the peace and mystery found in the natural world. Each piece is grounded in a deep connection to the land, the animals, and the creative process that ties them together.
This is a free event. Foam will be pouring beer, and Deep City will be serving free hors d'oeuvres and selling wine and drinks. Join us for this special evening celebrating locally made art.
